Mother’s day is fast approaching and I for one feel the pressure of getting that perfect gift. It has to be sentimental, useful, and/or personal. I have stuck to the flowers and candy avenue for far too long. For the one who brought me into this world, a yearly bouquet of roses hardly seems good enough. So I have come up with a few ideas, just to get the wheels going on how you can come up with a thoughtful gift for the one who knows you best.
The Sentimental Soul
If your mom ever framed any piece of artwork you ever created, she might still love something you create for her today. Get creative with what you have on hand-maybe a collage of some of her favorite things made into a card or if you have some fabric around, you can easily decoupage some cut-outs like I did here. And all you need is a blank card, some regular white glue, and some fabric.
The Devoted Dessert-ist
I remember times when my mom would hide her stash of chocolate from us kids. If you’re mom has a similar sweet tooth you might try buying or baking her a special batch of her favorite sweets, making it clear that they are for her enjoyment only. Cupcakes are always a good place to start if you are unsure or if your mom likes every sweet thing.
The Gentle Greenskeeper
Maybe your mom loves to garden or just loves flowers and plants. Trade in a trip to the florist for a trip to the grocery store or farmers market instead. Herbs can make a beautiful, fragrant, and useful bouquet. As a bonus, the herbs can be used in your mom’s best dishes if she cooks. You don’t have to be a floral designer to make this bouquet come together either. As long as you have enough herbs, it will just come together on its own. Wrap in brown paper or burlap for a rustic feel and tie with string.
The Fanciful Foodie
A gourmet food gift is always a sure way to let someone know that it’s ok to indulge once in a while. Chances are, your mom doesn’t take that much-deserved time for herself. Even taking the time to make a great cup of tea or coffee, slowly, can be pampering enough without feeling guilty. Create a gift box with some high quality tea leaves, a teacup, and some personalized tea bags like I’ve done here by simply attaching a string with a sweet message on the end for steeping. Disposable tea filters can be found on Amazon.
Overall, your mom is going to love any gift you make for her. You are her most prized possession and your thoughtfulness is what most counts, whether you make or buy her gift!
