Perfectly Balanced Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are so underrated. You’d think that putting vegetables in a smoothie would not be the most appetizing but it’s actually really tasty. By using fresh spinach or other mild flavored veggies you can easily mask the flavor if you are not a huge vegetable fan. The best vegetables to use in smoothies are generally the softer leafy greens like spinach, kale(dino to be specific), chard, etc. These offer huge vitamin benefits as well as being easy to blend up. Avocados are another great option for healthy fats, and for those who need a heartier smoothie for workouts.

In this smoothie I used:

2 handfuls of spinach

1 whole ripe banana

4 strawberries

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks

1 cup orange juice

1 tablespoon chia seeds

In your blender, start with the spinach and then add your fruits, adding the liquid last. This helps everything blend together nicely without having too many big clumps. When I’m using frozen fruits I tend to not use ice so feel free to add ice if you like a thicker smoothie. Also, yogurt or nut butters are a great addition!

Hey Hey! So I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart stomach.  FOOD. I love food. Re-phrase: I love good food. Food that makes me feel good and food that makes me happy. Don’t we all! So lately I have been cooking A LOT. We’re talking pretty much double what I was... Continue reading

So today I decided to make this delicious, creamy pasta for lunch. Is it healthy?…not really (but it DOES have peas in it) Is it tasty?..oh yeah! It’s kind of like being on a rainbow while dropping spoonfuls of creamy, cheesy clouds into your mouth. The fresh sweet peas really make this dish stand out... Continue reading

We are all familiar with mayo. We know it’s unhealthy and grocery store brands are packed with some pretty gross ingredients including corn syrup and hydrogenated oils. In fact, homemade mayo only contains a few ingredients so why add all those nasty things? Oh wait, shelf life. We need products to last for 8 years... Continue reading

You’ve heard it said “You are what you eat.” But is it really true? As far as health goes, it’s pretty obvious that diet is a huge part of how physically fit one is. But does food really play that much of a part when it comes to our hair? The short answer is yes.... Continue reading

I have been looking forward to Thanksgiving week because I love cooking and baking holiday foods. This year, we have three different Thanksgiving meals to go to (not all in the same day thankfully). It’s awesome because I get to make so many different things to bring. Plus, who wouldn’t want to re-live a Thanksgiving... Continue reading

I don’t know about you but there comes a certain time every day that I just really need a snack. I actually schedule in snacks throughout the day to keep me from overeating at meals. I welcome snacking into my health routine so long as my snacks don’t contain sugar or anything processed. So here... Continue reading

It’s a happy day whenever I make homemade granola. For one, homemade granola is delicious and easy! It’s also great knowing exactly what is and isn’t in your food. Making granola also makes your house smell like grandmas (and who doesn’t love that!). This granola is very versatile and you can pretty much put anything... Continue reading

Fishtail. Rope. Milkmaid; these are just a few different types of braids that I love. So pretty, so simple, and so easy to dress up (or down). Now that it’s summertime, braids are going to be my best friend. Ok, so maybe I was already best friends with them in the first place! What can... Continue reading

facemask

Green monster alert! It’s just natural to act reptilian when wearing a green face mask, right? But this mask won’t leave your skin feeling lizardly, thank goodness. Once a week I try to give myself an “at home spa day” or at least that’s what I call it whenever I do a facial. A bubble... Continue reading
