You’ve heard it said “You are what you eat.” But is it really true? As far as health goes, it’s pretty obvious that diet is a huge part of how physically fit one is. But does food really play that much of a part when it comes to our hair? The short answer is yes. There are just certain nutrients that our hair needs to be healthy and shiny. Our hair needs good oils from fish or nuts and seeds to remain strong and supple. It also needs protein because that is primarily what hair is made up of. There are products that you can use that contain certain proteins but they should be used in conjunction with a good diet.
Foods that feed your hair:
Nuts/seeds– the fatty oils help hair remain soft, hydrated, and shiny. Also good for skin appearance.
Avocados– great source of healthy fats
Meat/eggs/fish/beans- proteins that hair needs to build itself
Chia seeds– very high in omega-3 fatty acids that hair needs to be shiny
Coconut Oil– literally feeds your hair from the outside-in! Coconut oil is high in healthy fats and antioxidants. You can directly apply it to your hair to reduce static and to tame frizz.
If you don’t already, try incorporating some of these foods in your diet and you should start to see a difference in the health of your hair. Not to mention your skin and nails will be healthier looking too!
